Kyle Hayashi and Alex Chiarella captured the 2017 Nike Golf/Aloha Section PGA Four-Ball Match Play Championship, defeating T.J Kua and Todd Rego 3 & 1 in the championship match at Oahu Country Club. The match was tight the entire way with T.J & Todd grabbing a one up lead on hole #3 with Todd’s birdie 3. Kyle evened the match with an eagle three on the par five 6th hole sinking a thirty foot putt to square the match. On hole #9 Kyle again made a thirty foot birdie for them to take a one up advantage at the turn. Both teams traded pars and birdies until the Kyle birdied the 16th hole making a twenty foot putt for their team to take a two up lead. The match was conceded on hole #17 after both Todd and T.J missed their birdie attempts. Alex and Kyle were eight under par in the championship match that featured a combined eleven birdies and one eagle. Kyle and Alex pocketed $1,500 each for their victory.
T.J. Kua and Todd Rego defeated Kellen Asao and Shane Hoshino 4 & 3 to advance to the championship match. T.J and Todd were six under par and never lost a hole in the match.
Kyle Hayashi and Alex Chiarella defeated Juan Rodriguez and Jason Jakovak on the 20th hole (second hole of sudden death). Kyle and Alex were one down going into the final hole. On #18 Kyle hit his tee shot out of bounds and Alex’s tee shot was only a few inches in bounds on the cart path. After taking relief from the path Alex hit a brilliant shot slicing his approach shot onto to the left hand fringe some forty fee from the hole. Juan had an opportunity to close out the match but his seven foot par putt slid by the hole as Alex two putted for par to extend the match to sudden death. On the first hole of sudden death Kyle buried a twenty five foot birdie putt that forced Jason to make his birdie from eight feet to extend the match. On the second hole Alex hit his approach to ten feet for eagle and two putted for the victory.
