Hunter Larson of (Holualoa, Hawaii) won the National Car Rental Aloha PGA Assistant Championship at Hoakalei Country Club with a two-round total of (75-71) 146.
Hunter’s victory earns him the Aloha Section PGA Assistant’s Championship title and a first place prize of $1,700. He will be representing the Aloha Section PGA at 42nd National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship, Nov. 15 – 18, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The facility will be hosting its nineteenth consecutive PGA Assistant Championship.
“Over the last few days we’ve had a good amount of rain which has made it difficult to maintain the roughs. Overall we are very proud to host the National Car Rental Assistants Championship for our Section,” said Tad Fujimaki, General Manager of Hoakalei Country Club.
“It’s really tough playing 36-holes in one day but for the most part it really helps myself and other Assistants limit the number of days we need to take off from work.,” said Larson of Kohanaiki. “We appreciate National Car Rental’s support for this event.”
Corey Kozuma posted a final-round 73 for a tournament total of 146 to tie Larson and enter a play-off. Kozuma earned the spot as first alternate from the Aloha Section.
“The course was tough and the weather conditions today were perfect, but I felt really well on how I played and Hunter made a great putt on our first playoff hole to win,” said Kozuma who is an assistant at Hawaii Kai Golf Course.
The 126-man field for this year’s 42nd edition of the PGA Assistant Championship consists of the top-4 finishers from last year’s championship, if eligible, as well assistant’s and apprentices from a weighted average of total entries of the 41 PGA Sections.
The winner of the 42nd National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship earns $9,000 out of a total purse of $100,000. The top-70 finishers and ties after the second round will make the cut.
