The trade winds were blowing this morning at Kauai Lagoons Golf Course as the juniors teed it up for round one of the 2013 Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship. Hosted by the Aloha Section PGA Foundation, this event is a national qualifier for the Junior PGA Championship which will be played at Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C. in Potomac Falls, Virginia on July 30 – August 2. The Aloha Section will be awarding one berth to the low gross winner in the Boys and Girls Championship Flight (ages 13-18).
After round one, John Oda and Andrew Chin are tied for first place in the Boys Championship Flight. Oda, won last year’s qualifier and is back to defend his title. Two strokes behind them are Shawn Lu and PJ Samiere at (71). In the Girl’s Championship Flight, Brittan Fan posted a (74) to finish three swings ahead of Rose Huang at (77). Huang is just one shot ahead of Aiko Leong at (78).
In (Ages 11-12) Flight, Ethan Dezzani leads the boys at (81) just one stroke ahead of Jordan Terada. Reese Guzman leads the Girl’s Flight at (74). In the 10 and under division, Jacob Torres leads the boys at (87), while Milly Byun leads the girls at (71).
