With over 40,000 people in attendance the Aloha Section PGA participated in the Children and Youth Day in Hawaii at on the state capitol lawn this weekend. (October 7, 2012)
In 1993, the Hawaii State Legislature and Governor established Children and Youth Day in Hawaii as the first Sunday of every October to celebrate and honor our children and youth and the special contributions they make to our community. After much community discussion, Act 30 of 1997 was passed to dedicate the entire month of October as Children and Youth Month in Hawai’i.
The Hawaii State Legislature’s Keiki Caucus has spearheaded this month long celebration for the past nineteen years with the tremendous support of hundreds of community organizations and thousands of volunteers.
The Aloha Section PGA’s Growth of the Game committee was very excited to participate in this year’s Children and Youth Day event as it has become one of the largest community celebrations in the State. It has created lifetime memories for our keiki, ‘opio and families as well as opportunities for family members to connect with one another and other families, and with wonderful community resources that are available in our State in a fun-filled and life changing way.
The Section would like to recognize the PGA members and staff that selflessly decided their Sunday to the child of Hawaii by giving free 10 minutes lessons.
